What’s different about this conference if you already think you KNOW Columbus? First, you’ll get to work directly with nationally known author of “Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step At A Time” Jeff Speck. Jeff is leader on smart growth and sustainable design, and in three different opportunities Wednesday, Sept. 17, you’ll have a chance to apply Jeff’s knowledge to your project or neighborhood’s challenge. Speck knows the value proposition of sustainable development; and he’s coming to Columbus to help local pros asses the state of where we stand in the fight for sustainability in our current work. You’ll leave with advice and examples of how to propel work on sustainable development.

Learn from regionally and nationally known "placemakers" to understand how to maximize the people, places and political power you need to advance your own community. Jim Diers is a nationally known speaker and activist who for more for many years empowered neighborhoods throughout Seattle to become more engaged, and more empowered. Now let him share his secrets with you in his half-day workshop, Wednesday September 17.

And Thursday, tour four different Columbus neighborhoods at varying levels of maturity in their preservation and development processes. Go out in the field with experts to explore German Village, Short North, Franklinton and Weinland Park – each with its own unique comeback story. You may have worked in some of these neighborhoods, but we’re showing you aspects of each you may not have explored – or explore a neighborhood you haven’t yet worked in.
And this conference brings together Columbus neighborhood grassroots leaders with the professionals as we all learn from each other!
