Planner II

Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is accepting applications for the Planner II position. MVRPC serves an innovative multi-county region of approximately one million people in the area surrounding Dayton, OH (southwest Ohio). As a Regional Planning Commission (RPC), the agency provides planning services for members and also functions as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), a designation that provides federal funding for planning, rideshare, purchase of replacement vans and buses, and bridge, roadway, and multiuse trail construction.

The Planner II is a junior level position with a significant degree of responsibilities and technical scope. As part of the Department of Regional Planning team, the Planner II participates and provides support on the preparation of long- and short-term planning and GIS projects. The Planner II performs and assists with the updates and completion of the Agency’s regional and local plans.

The job duties include executing and supporting assigned planning projects by: performing preliminary and best practices research; data collection, analysis, and visualization; and report writing. Other related activities include: serving as the agency liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau and Ohio Development Services Agency; providing technical assistance to other departments; responding to requests from the general public for data and information; and attending night meetings that often involves residents and partner organizations.

The ideal candidate possesses: 1) knowledge of principles and practices of regional and community planning; 2) strong research, data analysis, data visualization, graphic design, and writing skills; 3) familiarity with Census programs and extensive experiences using Census datasets; 4) considerable experience in using relational database and data analytics software; 5) effective communication skills both with team members and the general public; 6) ability to work with local jurisdictions, other regional stakeholders, and the general public; and 7) proficiency in the use of MS Office, Tableau, Adobe CS, and GIS.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in planning, urban studies, geography, or related field with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in regional and community planning or related; Master’s Degree and/or AICP Certification preferred. Experiences in data analytics software Tableau is a plus.
