The Work You’ll Do…
Under general supervision performs specialized functions associated with enforcing and administering the City Zoning Code (Unified Development Ordinance).
• Ensure new development and ongoing land occupancy conform to applicable City regulations regarding land use and zoning, drainage and stormwater management, special flood hazard areas, and nuisance abatement.
• Understand, interpret, and apply information from the Starte and City Codes and specifications.
• Complete zoning application intake procedures.
• Review and approve or deny permit applications for accessory uses, signs, minor site plans, and temporary uses.
• Receive and act on zoning and nuisance complaints, including investigations and notices, and provide testimony in court cases.
• Assist and advise contractors, developers, property owners and others regarding zoning regulations and requirements.
• Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with all zoning regulations and permit requirements.
• Handle written and oral correspondence relative to applicable code violations, Maintain records of permits, zoning approvals/denials, and construction inspections.
• Serve as staff liaison to the Planning Commission, BZA, and other City boards, commissions and/or County agencies.
We’re looking for someone who…
• Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering and/or code enforcement and urban planning.
• Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, codes, procedures, and related information in carrying out job duties.
• Ability to inspect property to determine if unsafe and unsanitary conditions and/or Code violations exist, initiate action, and explain violations.
• Ability to effectively and tactfully explain City Ordinances and regulations to property owners, and mediate disputes.
• Ability to write reports using professional planning knowledge and maintain records according to established procedures.
• Possesses a valid Ohio driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
