Senior Planner

Hamilton County Planning and Development

Pay Range: 20.16/hour

Hamilton County, OH has an open position for Senior Planner.

In the Planning and Development we are responsible for ensuring safe, responsible development and redevelopment while building partnerships to create and implement visionary plans. In this role you will perform a variety of professional planning and planning-related tasks such as conducts research studies, gathers and analyzes data, prepares reports, and develops plan processes in assigned area of planning



Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):

-Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or related field, and

-Four (4) years of relevant experience which evidences an advanced knowledge of planning and regulatory controls. -Note: an advanced degree in a field relative to the area of specialization may substitute for one (1) year of experience. or ten (10) years of experience in the planning and zoning field.

-Planners with three (3) years entry level planning experience in the department, with above satisfactory performance evaluations and forty (40) hours of supervisor approved training will qualify for advancement to Senior Planner with written request of the Department Head. Note: an advanced degree in a field relative to the area of specialization may substitute for one (1) year of experience.



Job Duties (Summary):

-Leads planning teams in the development, direction, and implementation of planning studies and planning reports in areas of specialization (e.g., land use, housing, economic development, environment, transportation, community facilities, fiscal impact analysis); gathers, interprets, and prepares data and maps for short and long range plans; writes reports and makes recommendations; prepares grants; makes presentation to the Regional Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners as applicable.

-Responsible for collecting and interpreting data and information used to prepare plans and reports; Creates and writes staff reports on planning projects, studies, and proposals; Prepares maps, photos, tables, and charts reflecting conditions and trends for planning reports and presentations; Performs analysis of ideas, proposals and applications to identify compliance with current ordinances, policies, and practice.

-Responds to inquiries from the public, media, and other public agencies; represents the Planning Commission at various meetings, on boards, and on committees; coordinates department activities with other departments and agencies as needed; attends professional development workshops and conferences. Communicates effectively, professionally, and courteously and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.

-Takes work program direction from the Regional Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners.

-Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
