Planning Intern

American Planning Association - Ohio Chapter

The Ohio Chapter of the American Planning Association is seeking an Ohio college/university graduate student enrolled in a planning program to provide research assistance related to the 2019 APA Ohio Statewide Planning Conference.

The expected time commitment for this paid position is 16 hours per week for 13 weeks (208 hours), mid-August through mid-November. There is potential to renew the internship for Spring 2019.  

The student will research and distill archival information to prepare exhibits about the history of APA Ohio and the history of statewide planning initiatives in Ohio over the past 100 years; evaluate and propose effective outreach and communication techniques for the conference; collaborate with student planning organizations at Ohio colleges and universities; and report regularly to the conference co-chairs and the APA Ohio Conference Committee.

The 2019 APA Ohio Statewide Planning Conference will be held in downtown Cleveland, October 2-4, 2019. Key research objectives of the position include:

Student will be paid a stipend of $2,500 in two installments of $1,250 each and will be provided free registration to the conference. The intern position is classified as an independent contractor. Stipend will be paid based on adequate performance.

The position is physically based in the Cleveland area, although it may be possible to complete some work remotely. A computer will be provided if necessary, although student may choose to utilize his/her own laptop. Material and supply expenses directly related to the conference may be reimbursed with prior approval by the conference committee. All other expenses are the responsibility of the student. Student is expected to check in with conference co-chairs weekly.
