Zoning Administrator

City of Riverside

Pay Range: $58,912-82,477

The City of Riverside is accepting applications for a highly motivated and skilled Zoning Administrator to join our team. Under the direction of the Community Development Director, the Zoning Administrator will be responsible for interpreting, explaining, and enforcing the City’s zoning codes, and ensuring compliance with local codes and ordinances. The Zoning Administrator works closely with internal departments, city officials, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and community members to foster growth and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversees, interprets, and enforces the zoning code and permitting process.

• Provides direct oversight and administration of the City’s zoning, code enforcement and permitting programs.

• Prepares reports, correspondence, maps, charts, posters, and other visual aids to support comprehensive plans and special projects.

• Implements local Floodplain regulations in compliance with State and Federal requirements, updating flood maps, plans, and policies of the community, and any activities related to administration of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

• Prepares oral and written presentations to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and other multi-jurisdictional Boards and Commissions as necessary.

• Serves as the Housing Officer for Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) Program and staff liaison to the CRA Housing Council.

• Serves as the primary staff liaison for Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Property Maintenance Appeals Board

• Works closely with business community on code and zoning issues within the City.

Typical Qualifications:

• Possession of a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, Public Administration, a related field and/or two (2) or more years of experience in Urban Planning or Public Administration.

• Possession of AICP (American Institute of Certificate Planners) license or ability to obtain AICP in reasonable time.
