Regional Planner

Fairfield County Regional Planning Commission

Pay Range: $52,228 - $71,843

Description

Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the Regional Planner is responsible for reviewing and advising clients on urban planning issues.

The Planner will work collaboratively with other staff to provide services to the community. The Planner’s primary role will be to administer CDBG applications and grants for the County, oversee the minor subdivisions process, assist with the review of subdivisions and zoning cases and provide technical assistance to the member communities.

Duties

Reviews subdivision and zoning plans: Prepares, conducts, and participates in meetings, public hearings, and in-house planning; Researches in-house planning efforts; Reviews block grant projects.

Provides technical assistance to Regional Planning Commission member communities on planning, redevelopment, and floodplain administration.

Researches local, state and federal regulations; Makes recommendations regarding revisions to township and county regulations; Reviews proposed revisions; Conducts and attends meetings with various agencies to make changes to code.

Prepares plans and reports; Supports countywide planning efforts; Attends conferences and seminars.

Assists public with subdivision, zoning, and general planning issues; Deals with fair housing complaints, intakes, report preparation, and training.

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in City and Regional Planning required, Master’s Degree preferred.

2-3 years experience in a planning-related field preferred.

Strong communication skills, well organized and a self-starter that can solve problems independently.

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, ARCGIS, and design programs.

Excellent research and writing skills; Ability to speak in public and give presentations; Knowledge of both book and electronic research methods; Knowledge of federal Community Block Grant regulations. Ability to read and understand substantive and procedural laws and regulations; Ability to identify relevant legal issues; Effective oral communication skills; Ability to organize and to work independently and in groups; Travel ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate evening meetings. Knowledge of land-use, zoning, and governmental policies, procedures, and operations; Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, noise, dust, and the like.
