Code Official/Zoning Inspector

City of Circleville

The City of Circleville is accepting applications for the position of Code Official/Zoning Inspector. This position involves collaboration with a variety of public bodies and the general public and is a permanent part time position that requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid drivers’ license. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, but not required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills described above.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to: administering and enforcing the property maintenance code; administering the zoning ordinance and assisting in reviewing and implementing the comprehensive plan of the City of Circleville and administering the Vacant Property Registration Program; enforcing the property maintenance code, zoning code, and vacant property registry; performing field inspections and preparing reports, issuing certificate and permits, notices of violations and notices of right to appeal.

The qualified candidate will employ best practices in maintaining property maintenance and zoning records in conjunction with clerical staff and meets and consults with land owners, tenants, professionals and public officials concerning land use of property, the zoning ordinance, guidelines for alterations of historic properties, compliance with the property maintenance code, and vacant property registration.

The successful candidate may attend day and evening meetings of public bodies, including but not limited to: boards and commissions that hear applications for re-zonings, various zoning-related permits, certificates of appropriateness, conditional uses and variances. The candidate will provide staff reports and may make recommendations based on those reports, including cases before the Planning and Zoning Commission, Property Maintenance Board of Appeals, Board of Zoning Appeals and Historic District Review Board.

The wage scale for this position is $20.00 to $25.06 depending on qualifications and experience with a Monday thru Friday schedule of up to 30 hours per week.
