Pay Range: $58,510 - $65,416

Village Planner –

The Village of Plain City is adding to its management team and seeks an individual looking to grow professionally and drive the community forward. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the administrative direction of the Development Manager, the Planner oversees and enforces the Village’s zoning ordinance and existing structure code; advises the Mayor and Council concerning the zoning conditions of the Village; supervises and oversees the Planning and Zoning Division and its employees. The Planner will act as the primary staff liaison to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Design Review Board. The Planner applies principles and practices of urban design, land use, zoning and planning theory, and application. The Planner also works on a wide range of projects including but not limited to the development, planning and zoning reviews, annexation agreements, planning and zoning code updates, implementation, development, and execution of the Villages Comprehensive Plan and other Village plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Community Development, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Public Administration, or closely related field with six months of previous planning experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job. Advanced skills in application of ESRI GIS, CAD and/or SketchUp (3D Design Software) experience highly desired.

Applicant must possess the ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact of public administration problems and solutions on other areas of Village operations, along with the ability to analyze operational and procedural issues and develop, recommend and evaluate proposed solutions. Applicant must possess the ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle sensitive information. Carry out instructions in written, oral, or picture form; exercise independent judgment and discretion; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; read, copy, and records figures accurately; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers; copy records precisely without error; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; compile and prepare reports; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; develop and maintain effective working relationships; travel to and gain access to work site; provide support to other village staff/offices as needed.
